Big Walker Lookout is a 100-foot observation tower located in the Blue Ridge Highlands Region at the top of Big Walker Mountain in Wythe County, Virginia on US Route 52, about 12 miles from Wytheville. The tower is accessible from Interstate 77 in Bland County and Interstate 81 in Wythe County. The tower is atop a peak near the Big Walker Mountain Tunnel and overlooking the East River Mountain Tunnel. Inside the lookout tower looking up at the stairs from the bottom
off US Route 52. The first store building burned in 2003 and a new store was built just to the right of the first. Originally, visitors crossed to the tower by way of a swinging bridge that connected to the back of the old general store. The swinging bridge was not destroyed in the fire and still stands. Visitors can cross to the edge where the original staircase connected to the bridge. Big Walker Lookout hosts traditional arts demonstrations on weekends. The lookout tower is open to the public, but there is a charge to climb. Tower views Located at an elevation of 3405 feet, the view from the top of the tower encompasses mountain peaks in five different states. |

We are continuing this program and hope that reading up on fellow members will help all of us become more familiar with one another and learn about other interests we may share. Once a members profile has been featured for a full 30 days, it is permanently linked to their photo on the members page.
